Feng Shui for Health

Health is considered the #1 important thing in feng shui since we need it in order to nourish all aspects of our lives.

For optimal health, a key part of your home is the physical center (the heart). You want it to feel open, calm, happy, expansive, and orderly.

You also want to pay attention to what is called the ‘health trinity’: the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. These (and the heart) are the most important parts of the home. Do what you can to keep them clean, beautiful, and clutter free.

You want the bedroom to be restful and safe. It is best to keep the computer and electronics out of that space as much as possible. Be aware of the images you see before going to bed and waking in the morning. Are they happy and healthy images?

Regarding the bathroom, it’s important to put the toilet lid down before flushing and to keep the lid closed when not in use. That keeps the negative chi from escaping into the rest of the home. You should also keep the bathroom door shut.

A good feng shui kitchen is clean and happy with healthy fresh food, as it’s where you nourish yourself and others.

You want sunlight and fresh air in the home as much as is possible. Open the windows. Get an air purifier if necessary. Air purifying plants are wonderful too— but not in the bedroom as many plants emit CO2 at night. Also, plants are about vibrancy and growth whereas the bedroom is about rest, relaxation, and restoration.

The cardinal direction East is the area of a home that is linked to one’s health (and family). The East area of your home is ruled by the wood element. Vibrant plants, wooden objects, green crystals, wood- or plant-like imagery, the colors green and brown, and tall rectangular (vertical) shapes are very happy in the East.

Earth and water nurture wood so earth and water elements are also very welcome in the East. Stones, ceramics, actual water, or images of these things, earth tones, blue colors, as well as mirrors (which represent water) are all good here. Photos of yourself in healthy places are also very beneficial.

You want to avoid strong presence of metal or fire in the East as they destroy or weaken wood.

A healthy home will support your health. A home is basically like a second body. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you!
